Nineteen year old forward Callum Best has become the latest player to sign for the Invicta Dynamos.
Dynamos Head Coach Kevin Parrish today secured the youngster’s signature allowing him to complete a move from the Slough ENL Jets.
Former Guildford junior, Best, will now join up with the rest of the squad and is in line to make his debut this weekend as the team face both the Wightlink Raiders and Chelmsford Chieftains.
Callum Best came to prominence as he rose through the ranks at the excellent Guildford setup and, in 2007/08, he was a star performer for the Phoenix under 18s as he tallied 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in just 17 outings. The following year the young forward then split his time between the junior outfit and the Guildford Flames in the EPL and he appeared 30 times for the most senior side whilst finishing as the league’s second highest scorer in the under 18s South Division 1. 27 goals and 26 assists saw Best record 53 points for the Phoenix – a tally that ensured he became a full time EPL player the following year.
2009/10 then had the excellent prospect icing for the Slough Jets, before a switch to the Bracknell Bees, whilst his performances also saw him appear for the national side at the under 18s World Junior Championships. In 2010/11 Best was then picked up by the Basingstoke Bison and, icing for the ‘Herd’, he would make a further 54 EPL appearances and go on to amass 11 points in the process.
Finally, during the off-season, Best opted to switch to the Slough ENL Jets to develop his game at the Hangar but, after 13 outings and 12 points for his new side, the young skater has seized the opportunity to switch to the Invicta Dynamos for the remainder of the current campaign,
Speaking on the capture of Callum Best Head Coach Kevin Parrish revealed he was very pleased to have the 19 year old on his roster having been an admirer of his abilities for some time.
Parrish said, “I feel what the team needed at the moment was a centre man and Callum fits the bill perfectly. He’s a guy I have been looking at over the past couple of seasons and so it’s good to now finally have him on the team and raring to go”.
Parrish then added what he thought the youngster would bring to the side when he said, “I think Callum will add a bit of energy, enthusiasm but also a bit of skill. He’s still early on in his hockey career, and is very keen to impress, and I have no doubt that he will fit in seamlessly with the rest of the lads and provide another boost after a couple of good weeks at the club”.
Forward Callum Best, who will eventually wear shirt number 11, will go straight into action this weekend as the Dynamos travel to the Isle of Wight to face the Wightlink Raiders before a home cup clash with the Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday.
